Pune: Day temperatures across parts of Maharashtra continued to remain significantly below normal on Wednesday, with departures ranging between 2° and 6°, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated a gradual warming trend over the next few days.Data from IMD showed that Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C on Wednesday, which was 3.2° below normal; Nashik saw a sharper departure of 6.8° below normal as its day temp was 32.9°C. Jalgaon recorded 36.4°C (-3.8°), Malegaon 35.6°C (-4.1°), and Mahabaleshwar remained cooler at 29.1°C (-2.9°). Similar trends were seen across several stations in Madhya Maharashtra. In Vidarbha, however, temperatures were relatively higher, with Akola recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 38.4°C, though still 1.8° below normal. Chandrapur (38°C) and Brahmapuri (38.2°C) also reported high day temperatures.Despite the current dip, IMD’s local forecast indicated that temperatures have already begun inching up and are expected to rise further. Pune is likely to see maximum temperatures around 35°C on Thursday, with forecasts suggesting a steady increase to 36–38°C by April 11–14. Neighbouring areas such as Pashan, Lohegaon, and Koregaon Park are also expected to follow a similar trend, with day temperatures touching up to 38°C by mid-April.IMD scientist SD Sanap said both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to increase by about 2–3° over the next four to five days.Sanap said, “Temperatures are expected to rise by about 1–2°; we can also say around 2–3° over the next four to five days. The rise will be due to clear-sky conditions, absence of moisture, and no active weather systems. This trend will be seen across most parts of Maharashtra, including Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.”The forecast for Pune indicates mainly clear skies over the next week, suggesting that the ongoing below-normal phase may give way to more typical summer conditions soon.
