Surat: The historic Dang Darbar will once again be celebrated with grandeur at Ahwa from Feb 26 to March 3. Established in 1842, Dang Darbar is among the oldest traditional events in the region. After Independence, its organisation was taken over by the government. Held annually before Holi, Dang Darbar begins with a ceremonial procession of the kings and their associates. At the main venue, they are presented with annuities by the government. This year, members of the erstwhile royalty will be felicitated twice — first on Feb 26 and again on March 2 in the presence of Governor Acharya Devvrat.The celebrations will open with a colourful inaugural ceremony featuring music, songs and dance performances. A grand royal procession will set out from the District Seva Sadan in Ahwa ahead of the formal inauguration.During the procession, visitors will witness the world-famous Dangi dance, along with Pawari dance, Madal performances, Bhavada dance and other renowned folk dances from various regions.On March 2, Devvrat will visit Ahwa. On this occasion, members of the erstwhile royal families will once again be honoured with political pensions at Rang Upvan.Cultural programmes will be organised every evening at Rang Upvan throughout the fair. The district administration has made comprehensive arrangements, including police security, cleanliness drives, public toilets, drinking water facilities, traffic management, stalls for indigenous products, tribal food stalls, exhibitions and health camps, to ensure the event is accessible and people-friendly.Approximately 1,000 temporary roadside stalls will be set up, with amusement rides installed at nearby locations. The five-day cultural evenings will feature prominent artists from Gujarat performing daily. In addition, local artists from Dang district and invited performers will present music, dance and cultural acts each evening.
