Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar police on Wednesday questioned Saharsa DRDA (District Rural Development Agency) director, Vaibhav Kumar, in connection with a case of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A five-member EOU team interrogated him for over an hour at the EOU office here.Kumar was first summoned by the EOU on Tuesday, but did not appear. After this, the agency issued a fresh summons, after which he reached Patna on Wednesday.EOU DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon said the DRDA director (Saharsa) interrogation lasted for about four hours. “He cooperated on some issues and did not give any answers on some matters. Kumar sought additional time to properly respond on some issues with documents. We are giving him additional time and he was called again on Tuesday (April 14) for further interrogation,” he told TOI.On the recoveries made during the raids, Dhillon said: “The team is examining all the documents, details and will prepare the final list of all the disproportionate assets. It will take a month. He acquired the ill-gotten money during his postings in different districts and he also served as BDO. The money was earned through corruption, through management of tenders.”The DIG further said the initial FIR mentioned disproportionate assets worth Rs2.41 crore, with around 70% from unverified sources of income. However, after the raids, the exact amount is still being calculated and is likely to increase,” he added. On March 31, the EOU conducted simultaneous raids at six locations linked to Kumar in Saharsa and Muzaffarpur. During the searches, officials recovered important documents related to 16 properties, including valuable commercial and residential land plots in Patna and Muzaffarpur purchased since 2016, often registered in the names of his wife, son and father.
