Ladakh, Mar 26: In a significant step aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure in Ladakh, Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra has initiated the formal registration of existing hotels, guest houses, and travel agencies in the picturesque Nubra Valley.
The move is expected to remove long-standing bottlenecks that have hindered the growth of tourism in the region, while providing a structured framework for local stakeholders to expand and operate efficiently.
Officials said the Tourism Department has been directed to immediately commence the registration process of all existing tourist infrastructure in Nubra, ensuring that the sector is brought under a regulated and supportive system.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable tourism and improve overall infrastructure in the region. As part of these efforts, proposals for setting up Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and enhancing local operational capacities are also under consideration.
The Chief Secretary stated that the lack of formal registration had been a major hurdle in unlocking the tourism potential of Nubra Valley, despite its natural beauty and growing popularity among visitors.
He emphasized that the timely registration of hotels and guesthouses will not only streamline operations but also boost confidence among tourists and investors, paving the way for Nubra to emerge as a premier and sustainable tourist destination.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by local stakeholders, who see it as a much-needed step towards organized growth and long-term development of the tourism sector in the region.
