T’puram: CPM state secretariat meeting decided to discourage public debate on veteran leader G Sudhakaran and treat his allegations and claims as trivial. Following a tactical approach, CPM state secretary M V Govindan said on Friday that CPM need not comment on Sudhakaran’s decision to contest as an independent candidate from Ambalappuzha constituency.“Ambalappuzha is the party’s sitting seat and our candidate would certainly win from that seat in the upcoming elections too. The district committee is adept at carrying out necessary election work. Sudhakaran parted ways with CPM by announcing his decision not to renew his party membership. He left the party after making public announcements. He is free to take any democratic decision,” said Govindan during a news conference.Govindan said the list of LDF candidates is being readied and a formal announcement would be made after Election Commission declares the date for elections. He said organizational work is in full swing and party election committees are already active, right down to booth level. Govindan expressed confidence that LDF would win elections for the third consecutive time.Govindan said there was no question of CPM taking steps to bring Sudhakaran to the party. “He went away and that’s it. Such developments will not affect the party,” he said.Meanwhile, CPM general secretary M A Baby told reporters that he was sad that Sudhakaran chose to leave the party. Baby said he still hoped that Sudhakaran would return. Baby had earlier said that Sudhakaran would not take any step that could put the party in jeopardy.
