The Communist Party of India (CPI) has expressed deep shock and grief over the untimely demise of senior party leader Comrade Naresh Munshi.
Comrade Munshi breathed his last on Sunday morning after a brief illness at a private hospital in Jammu.
Comrade Munshi stood unwaveringly with the downtrodden and the marginalised throughout his life.
An Agriculture graduate with an iron-cast resolve for communist ideals, Comrade Munshi chose the path of struggle and service to the subaltern over the comfort of a government job.
“Comrade Munshi was a walking encyclopaedia of communist movements in India and Jammu & Kashmir. His clarity of thought, ideological commitment, and deep understanding of people’s issues made him a guiding force for many,” CPI (J&K) State Secretary G. M. Mizrab said in a statement.
“Until recently, he regularly visited the Jammu party office, engaging with comrades and sharing his invaluable insights and experiences. His life was a testament to dedication, simplicity, and an unyielding belief in justice and equality. It will be incredibly difficult to fill his shoes,” Mizrab added.
Mizrab further said that comrades like Munshi devoted their entire lives to the cause of the working class and peasantry, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering commitment to the working class and the oppressed.
Assistant Secretary of the party, Gulzar Ahmad, while expressing heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family, said that it would be hard to fill the void left by Comrade Munshi.
Meanwhile, Annie Raja, National Secretary of CPI, also expressed her condolences to the bereaved family. She said that the party stands firmly with the family of Comrade Munshi in this hour of grief.
“ Munshi ji was one of the finest and strongly committed Communist till his last breath. As a person who believes in equality in all sense always respected senior comrades and encouraged the young one”, Annie said, who is also incharge for J & K unit of CPI.
Zutin Munshi, daughter of the deceased, informed senior party leaders that the cremation will take place on March 22 at Channi Cremation Ground.
The CPI leadership, party cadres, and sympathisers have paid rich tributes to the departed leader, remembering his lifelong dedication to the cause of the oppressed.
