Amritsar: In a major breakthrough, Amritsar commissionerate police seized an illegal arms consignment during a routine vehicle-checking operation, recovering two 9mm sub-machine guns and an empty magazine.Police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said on Sunday that preliminary investigation had established links between the seized weapons and gangster Gurpreet Singh, pointing to a wider criminal network.According to police, the weapons were allegedly meant for use in criminal and anti-national activities in Punjab.An FIR has been registered at Chheharta police station under relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Bhullar said special teams had been formed to trace those involved in transporting the consignment and to crack the wider smuggling network.Police said efforts were on to identify and arrest the absconding suspects and ascertain the intended recipients of the weapons.MSID:: 129880168 413 |
