Panchkula: In a heartwarming turn of events late Saturday night, the police helped deliver a baby on the roadside near Tawa Chowk, turning a potentially tragic situation into a story of hope and humanity.The dramatic incident unfolded when 22-year-old Lakshmi, a resident of Sector 21, was on the way to the hospital with her husband Anil on a two-wheeler. She began experiencing intense labour pains and had to stop near Tawa Chowk. A passerby immediately alerted the police.Responding swiftly, the all-women Durga Shakti Team – led by in-charge Usman and woman constable Anjali – reached the spot before the ambulance. Without hesitation, the officers facilitated a safe roadside delivery, offering both medical and emotional support to the mother.Moments later, an ambulance arrived and transported Lakshmi and her newborn to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 (GMCH-32), where doctors confirmed that both mother and child were healthy and stable.In a touching gesture, SHO Neha Sandhu suggested naming the baby girl ‘Durga’ in honour of the Durga Shakti Team’s crucial role in her safe birth. The family gladly accepted the name, according to the police. The entire episode unfolded between midnight and 2 am.
