Bathinda: During a seminar against drug addiction at govt Brijindra College, Faridkot, on Wednesday, a student raised questions before Faridkot Range IG Jagadale Nilambari and Faridkot SSP Pragya Jain about action against associates of some leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party in the district, apart from cops against whom complaints of pushing drugs were made in the past. The IG and SSP were at the college to make the students aware of the pitfalls of drug abuse and to encourage students to be partners with the police and other enforcement agencies in efforts to contain the social menace.
The student, Sukhbir Singh from Punjab Students Union, asked police officials what strict action was taken on such complaints, including in a case of an attack on a member of the anti-drugs committee, as action was taken against peddlers. Faridkot SSP Pragya Jain stated that appropriate action was taken in each and every case that came before the police. The action was taken on merit. On the issues raised by the student, the SSP stated that there was a due procedure to deal with complaints, and action was initiated upon verifying the facts raised in the complaints. She stated that there might be some black sheep in any department, but no one indulging in any kind of illegal activity was spared.Earlier, the SSP asked the students, including girl students, to become part of self-motivation groups against drugs, as they might motivate addicts to agree to de-addiction if any youth was found under the influence of drugs. College principal Gulshan Ahuja said that the seminar was meant for the college students, and the boy who raised questions was an ex-student of the college. Some of the girl students stated that drug addiction was a very serious issue, and everybody needed to contribute to the exercise to eradicate drugs from the state. MSID:: 128783226 413 |
