Kanpur: An in-charge of the Shastri Nagar police outpost in the city has been suspended after a 28-year-old domestic violence accused was allegedly beaten in custody late Tuesday, leading to a ruptured eardrum and other injuries.DCP Central Atul Shrivastav said, “Outpost in-charge Pawan Mishra has been suspended over the alleged custodial beating. A departmental inquiry is underway. Further action will depend on inquiry findings.”He said Mishra was suspended after the ACP’s investigation found him guilty, following a complaint by the victim’s mother.Abhishek Singh, a private company employee, was called to the police outpost by Mishra after his wife Shivangi filed a domestic violence case. Abhishek’s mother, Madhubala, claimed Shivangi often created disputes over petty matters. She said the complaint was filed after Abhishek slept at her place with his 1.5-year-old daughter.Singh was allegedly assaulted by Mishra and other police personnel, including sub-inspectors Arun Trivedi, Raju Kharwar, Jaswant Singh, and Sumit Singh Chauhan, when he visited the chowki on Tuesday evening. They reportedly threatened to jail him if another complaint was filed against him.Madhubala said that when her son did not return home till late at night, she reached the chowki and found him writhing in pain. She claimed that injury marks were clearly visible on his body. A private doctor later found that his eardrum had ruptured.
