Rohtak: An exempted assistant sub-inspector (EASI), posted with the Dial 112 emergency response system, allegedly died by suicide outside a police station in Rohtak on Monday. The deceased, 53-year-old Kuldeep Singh, was deployed on emergency response vehicle (ERV-594) at Kalanaur police station of the district. He reportedly shot himself in the head using his service revolver just outside station premises.Fellow police personnel immediately rushed him to PGI, Rohtak, where the doctors declared him brought dead.Kuldeep was a native of Dighal village in Jhajjar district and was residing in Kamlanagar near Jhajjar ‘chungi’ (toll tax barrier) in Rohtak for a long time. He is survived by his wife and three children — two daughters and a son.According to family members, there were no apparent signs of stress or distress that could have led to such an extreme step. They have demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.Kuldeep had earlier served at Lakhan Majra police station and was posted with Dial-112 at Kalanaur for some time. He shifted from his native village to Rohtak around 15 years ago.His cousin Praveen stated that Kuldeep was one among six brothers, one of whom had already passed away. Three brothers reside in Kamla Nagar area of the city, while two others live in their native village Dighal in Jhajjar district. Kuldeep’s last rites will be performed in his ancestral village.Station house officer (SHO) Satpal Singh of Kalanaur police station said that Kuldeep had gone for his meals before the incident. He allegedly ended his life just outside the police station premises. Police have taken custody of the body and initiated an investigation.
