Panaji: Water samples at the Dabolim-based Prabhu Violetta complex continue to be contaminated and unfit for human consumption, according to the latest reports of the directorate of health services. Eight samples tested by the directorate’s environmental and pollution control wing were found to be contaminated by coliform organisms. The test results, which were shared at a meeting convened by minister and local MLA Mauvin Godinho to address the issue on Monday, were contested by the builder. Godinho assured the residents that their water problem would be resolved within 15 days and that if required, the builder would install a sewage treatment plant with additional capacity.Builder Amit Prabhu told the residents he would refund two years’ maintenance fees as compensation after residents demanded monetary compensation for the physical and mental trauma they suffered due to contaminated water. He was directed to get special permission to ply more night soil tankers within two days and begin ensuring 24-hour supply water. The builder was told to get the drinking water tanks disinfected and cleaned too.Godinho later told reporters he had appointed Gaurav Pokhle, who deals with waste management issues and is responsible for the wealth-out-of-waste plant, as a coordinator between the builder, residents and panchayat. “It is a simple issue of one STP not functioning, but it had a snowball effect on polluting ground water, borewell and potable water,” he said.
