Mandya: A bakery in Nagamangala town of Mandya district has been sealed after a child fell ill from consuming a cake purchased from the outlet.The incident came to light after Anand, a local resident, bought a cake from a bakery near KSRTC bus stand for his daughter. Soon after eating the cake, the child complained of severe discomfort and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors confirmed that the illness was caused due to food poisoning. Upon inspecting the leftover cake, Anand was horrified to find worms inside. Accompanied by relatives and friends, Anand confronted the bakery staff.Following a complaint, municipal and health officials conducted an inspection. C Srinivasa, chief officer of Nagamangala Town Municipal Council, said: “Given poor hygiene and use of unsafe ingredients, we have ordered the bakery to be sealed immediately. It will not be allowed to reopen until cleared by the food and civil supplies department.”Srinivasa also announced that starting Wednesday, all bakeries in the area will be inspected. Those (bakeries) found operating in unsanitary conditions or using expired ingredients will face strict action, including closure, he warned.
