Chandigarh: As incidents of gang war, shooting for ransom and murders continue to be reported in Haryana, the opposition Congress on Sunday once again trained its guns on the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP govt.Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Singh Surjewala and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja, while expressing anguish over the “deteriorating” law and order situation, asked CM Saini to ensure the safety and security of the people of Haryana.
Selja said the broad daylight shooting incident in Kaithal, where a liquor trader was allegedly fired upon 25 times, exposed the true state of law and order in the state. The former Union minister also said the recent gang war on the Rohtak bypass was equally serious and alarming. Such recurring incidents, she said, created an atmosphere of fear across the state.Selja further said criminals became so emboldened that common citizens, traders, women and even elected public representatives felt unsafe.Surjewala, who is also the AICC general secretary, remarked on social media that instead of law and order, the govt, or the rule of law, gangsters and criminals ruled in the state. The opposition leaders added that the increasing cases of extortion and open activities of gangsters in recent days were a matter of grave concern. Incidents of former legislators allegedly receiving extortion threats indicated that fear of the law among criminals has nearly vanished, they said.Selja said maintaining law and order was the foremost responsibility of any govt, but the present BJP govt appeared to be failing on this front. If criminals continue to commit crimes in broad daylight without timely and strict action against them, it is natural for public confidence in governance and administration to weaken, she added.MSID:: 128677035 413 |
