Chandigarh: In an apparent attempt to defend Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and counter the Aam Aadmi Party over the issue of him being summoned by the SC Commission for alleged derogatory and casteist remarks against a Dalit minister in the Punjab cabinet, the Punjab Congress directed Kuldeep Singh Vaid, chairman of the SC department of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, to hold press conferences in various districts.In a letter to Vaid, Capt Sandeep Singh Sandhu, general secretary-in-charge (organisation), said as desired by Bhupesh Baghel, general secretary-in-charge, and as per the directions of the PCC president, district heads of the department should be instructed to immediately hold press conferences in their respective districts regarding the recent action of the SC Commission in summoning the CLP Leader, Partap Singh Bajwa.The letter said the issue related to what it described as a false and misleading campaign allegedly being run by the Aam Aadmi Party to portray the Congress as anti-Scheduled Caste and to tarnish the party’s image. Vaid was requested to coordinate with all district heads to ensure that the press conferences were organised without delay.
