Lucknow: Doctors at Balrampur Hospital have successfully performed a complex surgery on a 6-month-old girl whose abdominal organs shifted to her chest cavity, causing severe breathing problems and vomiting and fainting since birth. The child is now recovering and was taken off ventilator support on Saturday. The baby, a resident of Sultanpur, was brought to the hospital on Jan 31 in critical condition. She was admitted to paediatric ward and treated by Dr Akhilesh Kumar. Investigations, including blood tests, X-ray, echocardiography, contrast study and CT scan, revealed a birth defect in which a hole in diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into chest cavity affecting lung development and putting pressure on heart and lungs.tnn
