Coimbatore: A 42-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, for illegally manufacturing firecrackers at his residence in Pallapalayam near Sulur in Coimbatore district. Police seized a significant quantity of prohibited firecrackers and raw materials from his residence.Sulur police have identified the arrested as V Saravanakumar, 42, of Govindasamy Street in Pasumpon Nagar near Sulur. He was apprehended after a police team raided his house following a tip-off on illegal manufacture and storage of banned explosives. During the search, officers found prohibited fireworks alongside raw chemical agents, including sulphur powder.Initial investigations revealed that Saravanakumar was previously employed at a fireworks shop owned by a man named Sampath in Sathyamangalam. “Saravanakumar had stolen raw materials and crackers from his workplace over a period of time and began illegally manufacturing firecrackers at his home. He was also modifying the firecrackers to increase their potency and illegally selling them for local temple festivals and special events,” an officer said.He was booked for illegal possession and manufacture of explosive substances, produced before a local court and sent to prison.
