“They will start receiving their ROPA 2009 DA arrears from March 2026 as per the modalities detailed in the notifications issued by our finance department,” Banerjee announced.
“I am happy to announce that our Ma-Mati-Manush government has delivered on its promise to all its employees and pensioners, and to lakhs of teachers and non-teaching staff of our educational institutions, as well as employees/ pensioners of our other grant-in-aid institutions like panchayats, municipal bodies, other local bodies etc.,” Banerjee posted in her X Handle on Sunday.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court had directed the Bengal government to make the payment of 25% of the DA arrears from 2008 to 2019 by March 31. It was instructed to adhere to a step-by-step approach, as directed by the apex court, to ensure that DA payments to employees are aligned with those of Central government staff, along with the arrears accumulated since 2008.

The agitation for outstanding DA in West Bengal had been going on for a long time by the Sangrami Joutho Manch (Joint Movement Forum) with the Forum convener Bhaskar Ghosh saying, “Out movement has yielded this result”. Asked about the DA announcement, BJP State President Samik Bhattacharya said, “The state government employees know the Chief Minister. People will remove Mamata BAnerjee. The people of West Bengal are ready to bring change. After the result announcement, the new government will pay DA according to the Seventh Pay Commission.”
