Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has approved the construction of two key Greenfield Expressways: the Kotputli-Kishangarh alignment and the Beawar-Bharatpur alignment. The decision, confirmed by well-placed sources on Tuesday, marks a crucial step towards enhancing the state’s transportation network. The Kotputli-Kishangarh alignment will stretch 181 km, while the Beawar-Bharatpur alignment will cover 342 km. These expressways are part of a larger initiative announced during the 2023-24 state budget by deputy chief minister Diya Kumari, who oversees the finance portfolio. A total of nine Greenfield Expressways, spanning 2,756-km, are planned in the state, with the govt aiming to complete five of these by 2030 as part of its ‘Vision 2047’. The Public Works Department (PWD) is gearing up to initiate the land acquisition process soon for the two approved expressways, with plans to issue construction tenders by the end of the current financial year or early in the next fiscal year. A senior PWD official said, “We have received the necessary approval from the CM to build two of the nine proposed Greenfield Expressways in the state. We are now going to start the land acquisition process. A huge amount of land – both govt and private – needs to be acquired for these two projects.” The land acquisition will be conducted under Sections 4, 11 and 19 of the Rajasthan Land Acquisition Act, 2014. Officials indicated that the tender process typically commences once the procedures under Section 11 are nearing completion, which is expected to take at least six to eight months. “Probably, we would float tenders for the construction either by the end of this fiscal year or by the latest early next financial year,” another official elaborated. The construction of these expressways is set to significantly improve high-speed connectivity within Rajasthan and with neighboring states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat and Delhi. Once completed, all district headquarters in Rajasthan will be within one hour’s travel from these expressways, improving transportation and accessibility .
