Ahmedabad: A sudden decision by Gujarat University (GU) to discontinue its Master of Social Work (MSW) programme sparked protests, with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staging a demonstration on Monday. They opposed the move and raised slogans outside the vice-chancellor’s office. The university cited legal complications as the reason for the abrupt closure, stating that although the course had been run on a self-financed basis for years, permanent faculty appointments were made—now under legal scrutiny.ABVP members criticised the administration for halting a well-established programme without considering its impact on students. They demanded the immediate reinstatement of the MSW course and urged the university to resolve administrative issues without disrupting academic opportunities.
