Berhampur: A 16-year-old Class X examinee allegedly died by suicide at her home in Ganjam district on Saturday night, police said on Monday.Family members alleged that she may have taken the step after an invigilator allegedly found a chit during a search during the English paper on Saturday and warned her about possible action. She appeared for the Odia paper on Thursday and had performed well, they said.
Police said the girl was alone at home as her parents and brother had gone out for work. On returning, they found her hanging and rushed her to a govt hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Inspector Ashish Kumar Swain said an unnatural death case has been registered and investigation is under way. “Preliminary inquiry suggests an invigilator had found a chit in the exam hall, but she was not booked for malpractice,” he said.“Police will examine CCTV footage from the exam hall to verify the sequence of events and ascertain what may have led the student to take the extreme step,” he added.
