Vadodara: Students of city-based St Kabir School bagged top honours at Robofest 5.0 with two innovative robots — an autonomous line-following Robo-athlete and a maze-solving robot.The Robo-athlete robot can detect a ball or disc and push it into a goalpost while navigating hurdles. The maze-solving robot is designed to enter complex pathways and identify the correct exit within a set time. Both robots were built using technologies such as ultrasonic and IR sensors, camera modules, and microprocessors, including Raspberry Pi and Arduino Uno.The competition was organised by the Gujarat council of science and technology (Gujcost) and the department of science and technology (DST), and featured junior and senior categories.Two teams from the school participated in the junior category. The Robo-athlete team comprised Jainil Sutersandhiya, Dhrumit Shah, Samarth Vyas (Class IX) and Charmi Shah (Class XI), while the maze-solving team included Pushkar Patel, Shlok Chauhan, Vedant Parmar and Prisha Hathi (Class XI). The teams were mentored by Beena Bedekar, head of the school’s Atal Tinkering Lab.After clearing earlier rounds and winning Rs 25,000 and Rs 1 lakh, the Robo-athlete team secured first place in the final held at Ahmedabad Science City from March 19 to 23. The team was awarded Rs 5 lakh by Gujarat science and technology minister Arjun Modhwadia.
