Jaipur: Police Saturday busted a fake call centre operating from an apartment in Bhankrota and arrested five members of an alleged cyber fraud gang accused of cheating victims of more than Rs 1 crore by running online gaming and investment scams.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said the accused were linked to at least eight complaints registered on the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) by victims from various states. One of the complaints involved a fraud of Rs 2.5 lakh, while scrutiny of the gang’s bank accounts has revealed suspicious transactions totalling more than Rs 1 crore, he added.The bust came after city police received inputs about a fake call centre operating from the Shipra Path police station area. Investigators analysed call details, bank transactions, CCTV footage and other technical evidence before tracing the operation to the flat in an apartment complex in Bhankrota.A joint team from Shipra Path police station and the district cyber cell raided the premises and arrested all five accused. Police seized mobile phones, laptops and other digital devices, besides bank records, which have been forwarded for forensic examination.Investigators suspect the gang is part of a wider interstate cyber fraud network, and the seized electronic devices are being analysed to trace money trails, identify other members of the network and find additional victims.Police identified the accused as Ramesh Kumar (25) and Pappu Ram (25) of Barmer district, Krishna Kumar (24) and Praveen Kumar (21) of Balotra, and Naina Ram (35) of Jodhpur.
