Chennai: Unable to bear the harassment by her drunk husband, a 29-year-old woman strangled him with a wire at their residence in Avadi on Monday night.Police said R Rajesh Kumar, a cable operator residing at Kanniamman Nagar on Samayapuram Mariamman Street in Avadi, lived with his wife, R Maheshwari, and their two sons. The family recently shifted to Avadi from Ranipet for work. According to police, Rajesh frequently consumed alcohol and picked quarrels with Maheshwari.He subjected her to domestic violence.On Monday night, Rajesh returned home drunk and picked a quarrel with Maheshwari. During the argument, he assaulted her, leaving her with injuries. In a fit of rage, Maheshwari used a cable wire lying in the house and strangled Rajesh, police said. He collapsed and died on the spot.Hearing the commotion, the couple’s children raised an alarm, following which neighbours rushed to the house and alerted the Avadi Tank Factory police. Police later sent Rajesh’s body to govt Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Maheshwari was arrested on charges of murder. Further investigation is under way.
