Rourkela: A 56-year-old supervisor of a community health centre in Sundargarh district was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a woman and her minor daughter repeatedly. The accused allegedly extorted Rs 5 lakh and gold jewellery from the woman by threatening to circulate videos of sexual assault he had recorded, police said.Sources said the 38-year-old complainant lived with her husband and two minor children in a slum. In 2023, while facing some domestic issues, she met the accused. Upon learning of her difficulties, the accused offered assistance and suggested relocating to another place where he arranged accommodation. The family moved there on Sept 6, 2023. According to the FIR filed on Friday night, the supervisor sexually assaulted the woman multiple times during their stay at that place. On May 3, 2024, after her husband dropped their 14-year-old daughter at her private school, the accused, who offered to bring her home, took her to a room behind a hotel and sexually assaulted her under duress, while recording the incident. He threatened of severe consequences if she revealed the crime to anyone. On June 18, he again assaulted the minor girl, recorded the act and threatened to circulate the video if she disclosed the crime. Throughout this period, he continued to maintain physical relationship with the woman through similar threats. Subsequently, the accused demanded Rs 10 lakh from the woman, threatening to circulate the videos if she refused. Under duress, the woman provided him Rs 5 lakh along with three pairs of gold earrings, two gold rings and a gold necklace.“We have seized the mobile phone of the accused,” said inspector R P Nag.
