The corporators, including Sachin Katyal and Vanshri Meshram, along with Independents, alleged divisional commissioner did not provide them with the mandatory application form required to exercise voting rights after they sought group registration. They moved court, challenging what they described as administrative non-cooperation. “The form for voting was not being provided,” the petition contended. The dispute traced back to the post-poll alignment in Chandrapur, where Congress secured 27 seats. Chandrapur MP Pratibha Dhanorkar earlier registered her group of 13 corporators, Wadettiwar’s 18 supporters subsequently sought recognition as a separate group, asserting numerical strength. “We have the numbers. Our group should be recognised,” Wadettiwar maintained before approaching the court. The registration of the Congress group with Nagpur divisional commissioner office took place on Thursday. However, sources indicated the matter escalated to the Congress high command, where late-night discussions on Wednesday led to a reconciliation between the rival camps. Meanwhile, the political recalibration coincided with completion of the nomination process for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor and 10 nominations were filed for mayor and 6 for deputy mayor. For mayor, BJP filed 5 nominations, Congress 4, and Sena (UBT) 1. The candidates included Mansvi Girhe (Sena UBT); Sangeeta Bhoyar, Sangeeta Amritkar, Sunanda Dhobe, and Vaishali Mahadule (Cong); and Sangeeta Khandekar and Sarika Sandurkar from BJP. For deputy mayor, nominations included Prashant Danav (Independent), Pradeep Deshmukh (Shetkari Kamgar Paksha), Vasant Rajeshwar Deshmukh and Rahul Chaudhary (Cong), and Sanjay Narayan Kancharlawar from BJP.Sources said, the mayoral post will go to Dhanorkar’s camp, while the party’s group leader post has been allocated to Rajesh Adur along with the post of deputy mayor to Wadettiwar’s faction.
