New Delhi: Celebratory firing at a wedding function in northeast Delhi’s Dayalpur left a 32-year-old woman injured after a bullet allegedly struck her head on Saturday night. The accused, who has not been identified, is absconding, police said.The injured woman has been identified as Tabassum, a homemaker and a neighbour who was watching from her family.According to police, the incident occurred around 11 pm, when a group of young men was dancing to loud DJ music during the celebrations. During the festivities, a firearm was allegedly brandished and fired in the air as part of celebratory firing, police said, adding that during this act, one bullet reportedly hit Tabassum, who was present nearby, causing injuries to her head.She was immediately rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have stated that her condition is being closely monitored.Following the incident, the accused person allegedly fled the spot, creating panic among guests and residents. Police teams reached the scene soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation. A police officer said, “The firing was not continuously happening. Attendees and locals did not understand when the weapon was brandished and how it was fired.”Police further added that they are trying to ascertain whether the weapon used in the firing was licensed or illegally acquired. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the path taken by the accused. Cops are questioning witnesses to piece together the sequence of events.A case has been registered under sections 324 (mischief) and 3 (5) (common intention) of the BNS and Arms Act at the Dayalpur police station.
