Thane: In a major crackdown on an alleged fuel trafficking network, Thane enforcement agencies have busted a suspected diesel smuggling racket operating on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, seizing over 54,000 litres of the fuel in two coordinated raids at Kharegaon and Kasara.In a statement issued on Sunday, the administration said the accused allegedly attempted to conceal the consignments by falsely labelling them as “edible oil” to evade detection in both cases.In the first operation at Kharegaon, a tanker carrying 25,000 litres of diesel worth around Rs 25 lakh was intercepted on May 21 following a tip-off.A senior district official said, “During…

Guntur: Andhra Pradesh authorities have cancelled the Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate of pastor Chintada Anand after concluding that he practised Christianity and, hence, ineligible for protections under constitutional provisions following the Supreme Court ruling in his case in March this year. This is likely the first SC certificate cancellation in AP after the verdict.The district scrutiny committee concluded that Anand was practising Christianity as a pastor. Ahmedabad: A Gujarati woman, aged around 30, holding a US green card was arrested in the US on May 19 for allegedly acting as a courier in a multi-million-dollar fraud in which a 74-year-old was duped into handing over more than $3 million worth of gold. Prayagraj: Nawabganj police on Sunday arrested two gangsters, Krishna Kumar alias Bachcha Yadav (26) and Umesh Chandra Gupta alias Billoo (40), residents of Nawabganj near Dhanaram Ka Purwa area. The two gangsters were operating an organised racket of auto-lifting and reselling stolen vehicles after changing their chasis and engine numbers, with forged documents to boot. Bhubaneswar: The decomposed carcass of a 20-year old tusker was found in a forest close to Kasiadiha village in Dhenkanal forest division on Sunday morning. The exact reason behind the tusker’s death and when it died is not known.
