Bhubaneswar: The state govt has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 1.08 crore for the famous Sital Sasthi festival in Sambalpur district this year.The assistance will be provided through the Odia Language, Literature and Culture department following the directions of chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi. COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu govt has appointed Katta Ravi Teja as the commissioner of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation. Ravi Teja succeeds M Sivaguru Prabakaran, who has been transferred and appointed as the district collector of Ramanathapuram. Ravi Teja, a 2020 batch IAS officer belonging to the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been serving as the regional deputy commissioner (North) for the Greater Chennai Corporation. Mangaluru: Konkan Railway intensified its crackdown on ticketless travel. In April, KRCL organised 934 ticket checking drives with routine ticket checking activities, detecting 37,000 cases of unauthorised and irregular travellers. An amount of Rs 2.9 crore was collected from these passengers towards due railway fare and penalty. Cumulatively, during the financial year 2025-26, a total of 11,394 special ticket checking drives have been conducted. These drives led to the detection of 4,99,675 cases of unauthorised and irregular travellers, with a total recovery of Rs 27.7 crore as Railway fare and penalties, stated a release. Patna: A 60-year-old man was killed and a house was set on fire following an alleged land dispute in Bhitha village under Raniganj police station area of Araria district late Friday night. The victim succumbed to his injuries during treatment at GMCH Purnia on Saturday morning, police said.The deceased was identified as Badri Rishidev, son of late Mangal Rishidev. Jamshedpur: The driver of a container truck died after his vehicle came in contact with an overhead high-tension wire and went up in flames at a weighing station in Adityapur. The deceased was identified as Bharat Das, 35, a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
