Guwahati: Simultaneous extreme rainfall in Nagaland and the adjoining plains of Assam triggered devastating flash floods in three districts of upper Assam, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday.“When Mokokchung, Wokha and Mon in Nagaland received exceptionally heavy rainfall, Charaideo in Assam simultaneously recorded rainfall that was 436% above normal. At the same time, Sivasagar received 134% excess rainfall between July 18 and 20. Patna: Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has successfully secured convictions of 11 corrupt officials in 11 cases this year till 22 July, with the latest being Bhola Paswan, who was the circle officer of Roh block in Nawada district. Ranchi: A PIL was filed in Jharkhand high court on Friday seeking a probe into the accounts of the Jagannath temple trust committee in Jagannathpur. The petition, filed by Dhurwa resident Ajay Kumar, alleges that committee members have failed to maintain the trust’s accounts properly. Kumar claimed gross tax violations require a special audit of the trust’s finances. He also urged the court to appoint an independent govt officer to take control of the books of accounts and income and expenditure records of the temple, saying such oversight is necessary to ensure transparent and proper accounting.
