Chandigarh: Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM), an umbrella body of city traders, has opposed the proposed creation of new vending zones, claiming the move would worsen traffic congestion, sanitation issues and business conditions in existing markets.In a representation submitted to the home-cum-local bodies secretary of the Chandigarh administration, the traders urged the administration not to approve 11 new vending zones proposed by the municipal corporation and currently awaiting clearance from the chief architect. Bird-safe power lines at Keru Dumping Yard near Jodhpur Jaipur: Keru Dumping Yard, fast emerging as western Rajasthan’s leading winter refuge for migratory vultures and raptors after the globally renowned Jorbeer carcass dump, is set to become the state’s first bird-safe power zone. Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL) has begun retrofitting high-voltage electricity infrastructure around the site to reduce bird deaths caused by electrocution and collisions with overhead power lines. Rajkot: For the first time in decades, Saurashtra’s two major cities – Rajkot and Jamnagar – are grappling with a major drinking water crisis in peak monsoon.The situation has forced both municipal corporations to seek water from Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Yojana. The scheme was primarily conceived to divert surplus Narmada water for irrigation in the region.Till July 25, Rajkot has received only 251mm (28.95%) of seasonal rainfall, while last year it recorded 432mm rainfall in the same period.
