Krishnanagar (Nadia): BJP’s decision to field Anupam Biswas from Kalyani and Taraknath Chatterjee from Krishnanagar North sparked protests from party workers through the weekend. In Krishnanagar North — a TMC stronghold since 2016 where BJP has built its vote share — workers complained that the candidate was chosen without consulting local members. In Kalyani, where BJP won the previous election, workers objected to Biswas on the grounds that he had migrated from Bangladesh in 1997 and could not be considered a “son of the soil”.BJP also replaced its Basirhat North nominee. Kolkata-based lawyer Narayan Chandra Mondal, the original pick, was dropped after workers complained he had neither met local party members nor begun campaigning. He was replaced by Kaushik Sidharth, a local medical representative.
