TNNLudhiana: Even though villagers were relieved at the susbtantial reduction in the level of the Satluj river on Tuesday, the civil administration remained on alert. However, officials assured that the situation was under control. Balwinder Singh, son of Dhullewal village sarpanch said they were worried about a possible breach upstream but were reassured by reduction in the water level. At flood prone Sasrali colony, several villagers relaxed after a tense Monday.SDM East Jasleen Kaur Bhullar said that an Akhand Path was held on the riverbank in Sasrali colony. She added that the water level was around 60,000 cusecs and the situation was under control. Meanwhile, sources said that crops planted inside the river bed in Allowal and Bollewal villages were damaged. Sources in the administration said that roofs of 14 to 15 houses in Allowal were leaking. They added that fodder had been arranged for 50 cattle heads and the local gurdwara was providing food for people. SDM West Poonampreet Kaur said that teams have been deputed in flood-hit areas 24X7. She added that tarpaulins would be given to families as soon as they were received. She also said that while crops in the river beds at Allowal and Bollewal villages had been affected, the bundh was safe.Meanwhile, cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora and DC Himanshu Jain visited Sasrali Colony village to assess the situation at Dhussi Bandh.
