Patna: Health experts on Tuesday stressed that early detection of complications during pregnancy, regular monitoring and access to institutional care can significantly reduce the risk of maternal deaths. The observation was made during a workshop on high-risk pregnancy management organised by the Bihar govt and Unicef in Purnia.Chairing the event, DM Anshul Kumar directed health officials to ensure that no high-risk pregnancy cases go unreported and called for zero pendency in data entry. District data shows that identification of high-risk pregnancies increased from 2.9% in 2021-22 to 14.4% in 2025-26, reaching 21.2% in Mar 2026. Among blocks, Baisi recorded the highest identification rate at 27%, followed by Amour at 20.7% and Rupauli at 18.1%, while Purnia currently ranks first in Bihar in identification and management of such cases.
