Ahmedabad: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has flagged cases in which people availed of benefits under more than one housing scheme, in violation of guidelines.“The PMAY-G guidelines provide that if the household has been allotted a house under any govt scheme, the gram sabha would delete the name of such household from the system-generated priority list of eligible beneficiaries,” the report stated. Audit observed cases in which beneficiaries availed of benefits under various housing schemes in addition to PMAY-G. “In two districts (Jamnagar and Surat), 24 beneficiaries under PMAY-G were sanctioned houses under PMAY-Urban also,” the report said. “Out of 24 beneficiaries, seven beneficiaries availed financial assistance of Rs 16.55 lakh under PMAY-U in addition to Rs 3.10 lakh under PMAY-G, in violation of scheme guidelines,” it stated. Audit further revealed that in three out of 10 test-checked districts, 713 beneficiaries were sanctioned houses under PMAY-G and other central/state-sponsored housing schemes implemented for rural areas in Gujarat. “532 beneficiaries were found to have received financial assistance of Rs 211.70 lakh under PMAY-G and Rs 240.42 lakh under other housing schemes,” the report stated. The govt accepted the facts and stated (March 2025) that the cases would be verified, and appropriate action would be taken to recover the excess financial assistance disbursed.
