Buxar: A seven-year-old girl died shortly after receiving an anti-rabies vaccine at Sadar Hospital, Buxar, on Tuesday, triggering a protest by the family members and villagers who alleged negligence by staff.Civil surgeon Dr Shivkumar Prasad Chakraborty ordered a postmortem on the family’s request, and said a high-level medical inquiry team would investigate the matter thoroughly.According to sources, deceased Sajan Kumari, a resident of Baruna village under the jurisdiction of Industrial Area police station, was bitten by a stray dog around 11.30am. Her family brought her to the hospital around 4pm. After consulting a doctor, she was administered the vaccine. However, her condition began to deteriorate allegedly within minutes.Despite immediate medical intervention, the child died within half-an-hour, the hospital sources said. But Maya Devi, the girl’s grandmother, claimed the nurse concerned didn’t administer the injection properly.As the news of the incident spread, several villagers gathered at the hospital, expressing anger and grief. In the face of the growing unrest, the medical staff reportedly fled the hospital premises, while the Town police and Buxar SDPO Gaurav Pandey arrived at the scene to pacify the crowd.The family has demanded strict action against those responsible for the death and an adequate compensation.
