Coimbatore: A private bus driver and conductor were arrested on Friday, after a reckless driving incident on Trichy Road in the city caused an autorickshaw carrying school students to overturn.The arrested have been identified as M. Sivasakthi, 29, the bus driver, and K. Prabhu, 29, the conductor. Both were arrested on charges of negligence and complicity in dangerous driving.Police said the accident took place on Wednesday, when the autorickshaw, driven by K Nalina, 58, of Ramanathapuram, was carrying school students. When she attempted a u-turn, a private bus on route no. 8A, heading from Podanur to Chinthamanipudur, crashed into the auto.The impact caused the autorickshaw to overturn onto its right side. Public and traffic police rescued the trapped students. Nalina sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital, while the schoolchildren escaped without life-threatening injuries.The traffic investigation wing (East) police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police said Sivasakthi had been speeding due to time pressure on his route. Both were produced before the judicial magistrate VIII Court and remanded in custody at the Coimbatore central prison.
