Dibrugarh: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday evening performed the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the development project of Burha Burhi Than temple complex at Chapakhowa in Tinsukia.The development project, carrying an estimated budget of Rs 8.72 crore, aims to preserve the temple’s rich heritage, while creating modern infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of devotees.“Since 2001, I have been visiting Burha Burhi Than, and the place holds a special place in my heart. Once completed, this development project will transform the site into a significant socio-spiritual and tourist destination,” Sarma said during the ceremony.The ambitious project encompasses extensive infrastructure development within the temple complex, including construction of a new main temple building with an RCC-framed structure, a grand main gate, waiting hall and guest house facilities. The development plan also incorporates earthwork, landscaping, retaining walls, a welcome gate at Mandir Chariali and a dedicated accommodation for the temple priest.Built by the Chutia Kings, the Burha Burhi Than is dedicated to the primordial deities Burha (Lord Shiva) and Burhi (Goddess Shakti). The CM also paid his respects before the Manik ut (guru’s seat) of the Than and sought blessings for the welfare of all sections of the society.
