Amritsar: A Border Security Force (BSF) constable who was picked up from his Amritsar home by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on March 3 has died, with police saying his health deteriorated during questioning on March 20.The constable, Jaswinder Singh, died under circumstances that are yet to be officially established. His family has refused to accept the body or give consent for a postmortem, seeking clarity on the events leading to his death.Maqboolpura police station SHO Jagjit Singh said the NCB informed them that the constable had been brought in for questioning in connection with a case under investigation. “According to them, his health suddenly deteriorated during the questioning, leading to his death,” the SHO said. NCB is a central anti-drug agency that is separate from Punjab Police, but no statement has been issued so far.Speaking to media, the constable’s mother, Gurmeet Kaur, said her son had come home on leave and was due to return to duty on March 4, but was taken away by the NCB a day earlier. “We were not told why he was taken. On March 20, we received a call asking us to collect his body,” she said.Demanding a probe, the family has alleged foul play and said they would decide on further steps after clarity emerges. The SHO said the exact cause of death would be known only after the postmortem examination. “Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be shared once the report is available,” he said.MSID:: 129731834 413 |
