Nagpur: The anti-vehicle theft squad of the city police crime branch arrested Ashish Kamble, 36, a resident of Hinganghat in Wardha district, for allegedly stealing a car to smuggle liquor to Wardha district where prohibition is in force. He was nabbed while carrying liquor which he intended to sell ahead of Holi.Police said the arrest was made on Friday after the squad, on directions of DCP (crime) Rahul Maknikar, set a trap in Ganeshpeth area after receiving information that a car carrying liquor was headed to Wardha district. The car was intercepted, and during a search of the vehicle, police found 384 liquor bottles. The liquor and the car were seized.According to police, a person named Atul, who owns a beer bar in Madhya Pradesh’s Multai, had supplied the liquor to Ashish.In a related development, the squad also solved a car theft case from Chandmari in Wathoda and arrested Mrudang alias Mrunal Sarode, 36, a resident of Vaishali Nagar. Police said Ashish is also an accused in the theft case and had previously stolen the car to smuggle liquor.
