Gorakhpur: A group of lawyers approached the Cantt police station in Gorakhpur on Monday and demanded lodging of an FIR against a cleric for alleged derogatory remarks on CM Yogi Adityanath’s mother. According to the lawyers, a viral video shows the cleric Maulana Abdul Salim, reportedly from Bihar, making objectionable comments on CM’s mother at a religious gathering. Meanwhile, MP Ravi Kishan also condemned the remarks on the social media platform X and demanded strict action against the accused.Advocates submitted a memorandum to SHO Cantt police station Sanjay Kumar seeking strict action. Advocate Avinash Kumar Singh said, “A mother, whether of a common person or a chief minister, deserves respect. Any such offensive comments against anyone’s mother will be opposed.” If action is not taken against the accused the lawyers would stage protests on the streets. TNN
