Sadar police, accompanied by a forensic team, rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed panchnama.
Preliminary examination revealed the infant was male, estimated at around 8 months’ gestational age. The body was shifted to Mayo Hospital. Sadar Police registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation to identify the responsible individual and uncover the circumstances leading to the abandonment.Senior Inspector Amol Deshmukh of Sadar police station said the area, predominantly inhabited by low-income groups, lacked CCTV coverage. “We are appealing to the public for any information that could help trace those involved,” he said. “The exact cause of the death will only be clear after the postmortem report. All angles, including foul play, are being examined in the matter.”This disturbing discovery marked the second such case in Nagpur within the past 15 days, raising alarms over possible illegal abandonment or even infanticide.
