Mumbai: At BMC’s standing committee meeting on Wednesday, BJP corporator Priti Satam, through a point of order, highlighted non-adherence to basic safety measures at the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project site on Film City Road, creating dangerous conditions for passersby and on-site workers.Blaming officials and the contractor for being lackadaisical, Satam pointed out the girders erected at the site have no safety measures around them, debris is dumped at several locations, and there is no proper barricading around the ditches that are filled with stagnant water, thus posing a health risk. “They have not deployed anti-pollution misting units, besides there is no traffic warden,” said Satam, who demanded to know what action would be taken against the contractor and officials concerned if an accident took place at the site.Civic officials pointed out BMC has till date imposed a total penalty of Rs 3 crore on the contractor, including the Rs 50 lakh fine slapped in March for the delay in construction of the flyover between Dindoshi court to Dadasaheb Film City, which is part of the GMLR project. Additional municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar said that safety related issues will be dealt with seriously and necessary action will be taken. Bangar also said that other issues highlighted by Satam would be looked into and addressed. The GMLR project is proposed in four phases and Phase 3 (A) includes the flyover and elevated rotary construction. Work on the nearly 1.3km flyover between Dindoshi and Goregaon is underway and is expected to be opened to traffic by May 31.
