Guwahati: Unidentified miscreants exploded a bomb at the gate of a state Congress leader’s residence in Imphal East early Wednesday morning, once again putting Manipur’s fragile law and order under the spotlight. The bomb exploded in front of the home of Toijam Lokendro, the chairman of the labour department of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, at Kongpal Ningthoubung. The blast damaged the gate but caused no injuries. Police and forensic teams inspected the site, with no group claiming responsibility so far.Congress leader Keisham Meghachandra condemned the incident in strong terms, calling it a shocking breach of security in a high-security zone. In a post on X, he wrote: “This shocking incident in a civilian area within a high security zone raises serious questions about the law and order situation in Imphal. The culprits must be arrested immediately, and the govt must ensure the safety and security of both public leaders and civilians without delay.”Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has lashed out at the Kamjong district administration’s directive asking licensed arms holders to surrender their firearms. Calling the move “ill-timed” and “dangerously disconnected from ground realities,” TNL said civilians in Kamjong live under constant fear of illegal Kuki militants, and disarming law-abiding citizens without ensuring their safety leaves them “exposed to immediate risk.”Elsewhere in Ukhrul district, security forces destroyed bunkers at Lengiangching and Mongkot Chepu villages after multiple firing incidents between rival Kuki and Tangkhul Naga groups left three people injured in two days.Police said cartridges were recovered during the raids. The crackdown follows weeks of sporadic gunfire around Litan Sareikhong, where clashes in Feb had torched over 30 houses.Police said the operations rendered “bulk of the bunkers on both sides ineffective,” leading to a sharp reduction in firing, with area domination established through patrolling and troop deployment.
