For the first time, a BJP candidate has been fielded from two seats. Adhikari will also contest from his own constituency of Nandigram Constituency in East Midnapore district, where he had defeated Mamata Banerjee in 2021 assembly polls. If Bengal Chief Minister Banerjee contests from Bhabanipur again, it will be the second time that Adhikari will be contesting against Banerjee. Banerjee was elected from Bhabanipur in a by-election, after she got defeated by Adhikari in Nandigram.
Bengal is scheduled to go to polls in two phases April 23 and April 29.
In the first list, former West Bengal BJP president, Dilip Ghosh. has been fielded from his old Assembly constituency of Kharagpur (Sadar) in West Midnapore district He was elected in the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Interestingly, Soumitra Chattopadhyay from the family of the Literary icon Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, who composed India’s national song ‘Vande Mataram’, has been made the candidate from Naihati.

Among other candidates, there are 41 sitting members of the Legislative Assembly and 3 former Members of the Legislative Assembly (Samarendranath Ghosh, Karimpur, Saikat Panja. Monteswar and Shri Jitendra Kumar Tewari – 275. Pandabeswar).Former Rajya Sabha member and journalist-turned-politician Swapan Dasgupta has been fielded from the Rashbehari constituency in south Kolkata.
Actor-turned-politician Rudranil Ghosh has been fielded from the Shibpur Assembly constituency in Howrah district.
Sitting BJP MLA from Balurghat constituency in South Dinajpur district and former Chief Economic Adviser to the Union government, Ashok Kumar Lahiri, is missing from the first list. Vidyut Roy has been fielded from Balurghat this time.
Fashion designer-turned-politician and sitting BJP legislator Agnimitra Paul has been re-nominated from her constituency of Asansol (Dakshin) in West Burdwan district.
