Belagavi: BJP workers, led by party’s district (rural) president Subhash Patil, protested in front of the SP office building here on Monday, condemning the alleged assault on five Sri Ram Sene activists in Ingalagi village of Hukkeri taluk on Saturday.The protest was held despite SP Bhimashankar Guled’s statement that the police would not permit any demonstrations in connection with the case, even though legal proceedings were already initiated. During the protest, BJP workers sat on the steps of the SP office building and sang bhajans.Patil demanded strict legal action against those involved in the assault. He alleged that the activists were targeted for questioning the transportation of cows and criticised the Yamakanmaradi police for allegedly refusing to register a complaint filed by the victims. Patil also sought disciplinary action against the police officials concerned for dereliction of duty.The protest was withdrawn after SP Guled met with the protesters and assured them that proper legal action would be taken based on the evidence.Senior BJP leaders, including Basavaraj Hundri, Sandeep Deshpande, Mallikarjun Madammanavar, Dhanashri Desai and Murughendragouda Patil, were present during the protest.
