Haveri: Former chief minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai alleged that the state govt organised a convention — held here on Saturday to mark 1,000 days of the state govt — showcasing ‘zero achievements’.“In fact, it’s a convention celebrating corruption, and the govt is striking a blow by placing an economic burden on poor people,” he said.
In a post on X, he stated that the govt realised people would not attend the event voluntarily, so they organised a programme to distribute title deeds to people living on govt land in rural areas.Bommai said that when the BJP govt was in power, they regularised unauthorised properties and created a system through which beneficiaries could access loans. Now, however, the govt introduced a system where people were being made to purchase their own property, and, in order to fill the emptied treasury, registration fees were being imposed on the poor at sub-registrars’ offices. As a result, poor people are being forced to pay 3-4 lakh rupees. He further alleged that large-scale corruption was taking place in the revenue department to implement this system. This was a convention celebrating corruption, he added. The former CM also said that, at the same time, no houses were being constructed in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The convention was nothing but a “zero-achievement” convention marking 1,000 days of wasteful governance. Poor are cursing this administration, he said.
