T’puram: Congress has filed a complaint with the chief electoral officer (CEO) alleging that BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who is contesting from the Nemom assembly constituency, concealed assets worth crores of rupees in his election affidavit. According to the complaint, a luxury bungalow valued at around Rs 200 crore was not disclosed in the affidavit. Congress alleges that the 49,000 square foot property, located in Koramangala Third Block in Bengaluru, was omitted from the asset declaration. The property is situated on 1.07 acres of land in one of the country’s most expensive residential areas, where land prices are estimated at between Rs 35,000 and Rs 50,000 per square foot, the complaint stated. Based on this, the land alone is said to be worth approximately Rs 200 crore. Congress further stated that tax receipts related to the property, listed as property number 408, can be verified using application number 1600322463, and that the latest tax payment was made on March 17. “The tax was paid just six days ago on March 17, which you can verify yourself. If there is any doubt whether this belongs to the same Rajeev Chandrasekhar, his 2024 affidavit lists the same address as his residence. Chandrasekhar is a habitual offender and appears to believe he can mislead Election Commission of India (ECI) repeatedly,” Congress said. Despite being a wealthy industrialist, Chandrasekhar has reportedly claimed in his affidavit that he does not own a house or a car, Congress stated. The complaint accuses him of repeatedly attempting to mislead ECI and seeks his disqualification under provisions of the Representation of the People Act. It also urged ECI to intervene impartially, warning that failure to act could undermine the credibility of the institution.
