Dibrugarh: With the bugle for the 2026 Assam assembly elections expected to sound any day, BJP has intensified its organisational push in upper Assam. On Monday, a high-profile strategic meeting was convened at BJP office in Sivasagar district, bringing together senior national and state leaders to chart the party’s roadmap for reclaiming key constituencies in the region.Former Sirsa MP Sunita Duggal, former Haryana minister JP Dalal, and Assam State Prabhari (in-charge) Harish Dwivedi led the deliberations. They were joined by Assam BJP vice president Pulak Gohain, state BJP secretary Lakhinath Tasa, and former MP Topon Kumar Gogoi. The meeting also included office bearers from five assembly constituencies across Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, underscoring the party’s concerted effort to consolidate its position in upper Assam.Discussions centred on five crucial constituencies — Nazira, Sivasagar, and Demow in Sivasagar district, along with Mahmora and Sonari in Charaideo district. The focus on Sivasagar and Nazira is particularly significant. Sivasagar is currently represented by Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi, a vocal critic of the ruling govt, while Nazira remains a Congress stronghold under leader of the opposition Debabrata Saikia. The BJP’s outreach signals its determination to wrest both seats from rival parties in the upcoming polls.“Upper Assam holds immense strategic importance for the party. Our leadership is personally invested in ensuring that the BJP emerges stronger from every constituency in this region,” Harish Dwivedi said.Sunita Duggal added, “We have been engaging extensively with workers and local leaders over the past several days. These meetings are vital to our grassroots preparation, and we are confident about the party’s prospects across all constituencies. The leadership is here to listen to ground-level voices and fine-tune a strategy that reflects local aspirations. The enthusiasm and energy we have witnessed are truly encouraging.”
