Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav over his recent remarks targeting the Election Commission, calling them “irresponsible” and “demeaning to democratic institutions.”Akhilesh on Wednesday took a swipe at the Election Commission over its recent social media post on West Bengal polls, saying just remove ECI and everything will take care of itself.Reacting strongly, UP BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary said the SP chief’s statement not only violated democratic decorum but also undermined the dignity of constitutional bodies.Chaudhary alleged that the SP leadership invokes the Constitution selectively, driven more by political desperation than genuine respect.“Whenever the Samajwadi Party fails to get public support, it resorts to questioning democratic institutions to cover up its political frustration,” he said.He further accused the opposition party of adopting a “double standard”, claiming that it praises the electoral system when it wins but discredits it after defeat.Chaudhary said the party’s current rhetoric reflected its anxiety over a “shrinking political base”. He alleged that fears about its political future and repeated electoral setbacks have pushed its leaders to question even institutions like the Election Commission, security forces and investigative agencies.
